Cargill has announced that it is investing in the company Animal Biome, a start-up in California. "The aim of investment is to accelerate product development and accumulate knowledge in the growing sector of gut health in pets," states Cargill.
Animal Biome advances pet health by research into the gut and oral microbiome, creating a new category in the growing market for pet food, food supplements and veterinary care. The company has a database containing over 12 500 DNA samples from 10 000 individual pets. It has thus developed a reference database for a healthy microbiome of cats and dogs, facilitating a personalised approach to restoring the microbiome and creating reference points for future product development.
Cargill's advance into the field of gut health and immune resistance commenced in 2017 with the acquisition of Diamond V, a leading pet health company, and its investment in Delacon, a pioneer in phytogenic health solutions.
