The plant from manufacturer Nutriamo in Lombardy will play a central role in the expansion of the company's international footprint.
The acquisition of the plant in the municipality of Castiglione delle Stiviere is part of Hill's growth plans and marks Hill's first canned plant facility in Europe.
For Hill’s President and CEO John Hazlin, this acquisition is “an important step” in the company’s global supply chain strategy to continue meeting the growing demand by pet parents.
"We will move quickly to increase our capacity to produce canned food and the volume will grow over time as we are able to manufacture more of our products in the facility,” he said.
A spokesperson for the Colgate-Palmolive subsidiary told GlobalPETS that the plant is currently in operation producing wet canned pet food for Hill’s Pet Nutrition and is serving European markets. “Over the next 12 months, the strategic plan is to expand the exports to service our global markets for wet pet food."
Headquartered in the province of Mantua, Nutriamo was born in 2009 and it is positioned on the national, international and world market among the leading producers of canned wet food for dogs and cats.
The American pet food manufacturer is in the process of relaunching its brands with new formulations in addition to changes in the packaging to better communicate with pet parents about the benefits of these products.
