Ceva Animal Health inaugurated its new European distribution logistics platform in Montpon-Ménestérol, Dordogne, France, in mid-October. The French animal health company is thus improving its export capacities and strengthening its international presence. With a physical presence in 47 countries, 21 innovation and development centers and 33 production sites, Ceva aims to make Montpon-Ménestérol its first European logistics hub capable of serving up to 100 countries. The project is being financed by the French government as part of its economic stimulus program.
The logistics center in Montpon-Ménestérol is located 40 km from the company's historic headquarters and one of its main sites in Libourne. Equipped with the latest digital and automation technologies, “this new center embodies the future of distribution,” Ceva said in its press release. For example, the 12 000 m² storage cells are equipped with a Warehouse Management System (WMS) that optimizes all logistics processes – 20 000 pallets stored for 2 800 listed products - from reception to dispatch, and have autonomous, three-directional trolleys that facilitate storage and order preparation. These innovations are intended to ensure efficiency, shorten throughput times and optimize the supply chain.
The building only takes up 10 per cent of the 14-hectare site, the rest is used to preserve biodiversity and protect more than 54 bird species. The facility is intended to be energy self-sufficient in the long term thanks to 20 geothermal probes, photovoltaic panels, optimized lighting management and improved building insulation. This will reduce energy consumption by half compared to a conventional platform with the same capacity.
